James R. Gogan

Jim represents various private and public corporations on matters of reorganization, acquisition, merger, amalgamation, financing and general tax related matters.  He also serves as external general counsel for many corporate clients..


Jim has developed a specialized practice in the area of energy law through his continuing representation of clients involved in Nova Scotia offshore exploration.  This representation included the development of the Nova Scotia Offshore Royalty regime and related regulations, as well as representation of various governmental departments and agencies on energy related matters. Through his practice, Jim regularly appears before various boards, agencies and commissions in his representation of his clients.  Jim currently serves as general counsel to Efficiency Nova Scotia.  


Jim offers his time and expertise to his community in his role as Chair of Talbot House Society,  Past Chair  of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, Past Director of the Offshore Energy Research Association, Chair of the Financial & Legal Advisory Committee, Diocese of Antigonish, Director of the Canadian Order of the Knights of Malta and Governor of St. Francis Xavier University.
